WeLCoME!!!

Hello fellow onliners. Hopefully you came to this site purposefully, but if you stumbled upon it I hpe you stick around :). My name is Jasmine, I'm a student in undergrad, I LOVE poetry and spoken word particularly. I also have sickle cell disease which is the purpose of this blog. I wanted sicklers and non-sicklers to be able to learn or ask questions, bust up myths, raise awareness and tolerance all in a safe environment where we can vent and express/share our experiences safely. So, here is the place! Feel free to comment, share your story to relate to others, ask question that Im sure I can get an answer to; and enjoy the soon to come spoken word poetry videos, interviews, pictures, news updates and relevant events in the sickle cell community. While we wait on the general construction of the blog and for the entertainment to be posted, I've put up a video of a poem called "Reality Check" that I wrote based on the non-physical aspects of living with sickle cell disease. I performed this in the 2008 Louder Than Life Youth Slam along with 2 other pieces, at Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Competition 08 (Fort Lauderdale team), and for the docu-series (now on DVD) "Russell Simmons Presents: Brave New Voices" that premiered on HBO. Enjoy, comment honestly and I look forward to the feedback :) Until next time, stay well and healthy!!!
